Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has officially opened its new office at Lake View in Stoke Gifford, Bristol, consolidating five separate operations under one roof. The state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for HPE’s UK research and development (R&D) and engineering teams, bringing together over 200 staff working on storage, supercomputing, hybrid cloud and cybersecurity.

The new office, which includes a variety of working environments designed to promote flexibility and well-being, marks a significant milestone for HPE’s presence in Bristol. The company has been contributing to the city’s technology ecosystem for over four decades, with its previous site in Filton celebrating its 40th-anniversary last year.

The move brings together several key HPE teams and Hewlett Packard Labs engineering teams, as well as the HPE Cray supercomputing team, which was acquired by HPE in 2019 and is renowned for its work in application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design and high performance networking for supercomputers.

Engineers at Hewlett Packard Labs and HPE storage engineers in Bristol are responsible for over 300 technology patents. The new office will enable these teams to collaborate more effectively and accelerate innovation in storage, supercomputing and hybrid cloud areas.

Matt Harris senior vice president and managing director, UK, Ireland, Middle East and Africa at HPE, said: “Now is the perfect time to bring our storage, cloud, labs and supercomputing R&D teams together under one roof as we accelerate into the AI era. I am very proud of HPE’s legacy of over 40 years operating in Bristol, training thousands of high-tech workers and contributing to the region’s tech ecosystem. Bristol has served as the ideal home for our R&D teams and I’m excited to see our teams coming together at Lake View to foster the innovation and growth that is needed to keep the UK at the forefront of research and development.”

The new site, which also operates as a sales base for the South West, includes a range of working environments, but there is also an on-site gym and squash court, as well as bespoke art from local Bristol-based graffiti artists that reflect the city’s heritage.
