Buckinghamshire construction software company Causeway Technologies has acquired Buchanan Computing, a London-based provider of permanent traffic management and highway maintenance solutions.

Causeway, founded in 1999, boasts over 3,000 customers worldwide and employs more than 500 staff. The firm specialises in enterprise and cloud-based software designed to streamline the digitalisation of construction and infrastructure maintenance projects.

This acquisition marks Causeway’s fifth strategic purchase since receiving a significant investment from Five Arrows in 2021. The move strengthens the company’s vision of digitalising traffic management by integrating its one.network platform with Buchanan’s ParkMap software.

ParkMap is currently used by over 90 UK local authorities to manage temporary and permanent traffic restrictions. The combined offering will provide a single platform for authorities to digitise all of their traffic regulation orders, streamlining public consultations, minimising duplication and errors, and boosting overall efficiency.

The acquisition also brings Buchanan’s SignPlot and SignLoad products under the Causeway umbrella, further expanding its suite of solutions.

Phil Brown, chief executive of Causeway, said: “The acquisition of Buchanan Computing reinforces our commitment to delivering a fully integrated, end-to-end solution for highways authorities and contractors, enabling them to seamlessly plan, monitor and communicate the management and maintenance of their infrastructure assets while ensuring full compliance with legislation.” By bringing our vision to life, we empower local authorities to operate more efficiently, maximising their limited budget and resources. This not only improves the level of service, but also benefits the public with better-maintained infrastructure and more timely, accurate information about the road network, reducing congestion, journey times and carbon emissions.”
