Apple has announced an investment of over £18 billion in the United Kingdom over the past five years, which saw the tech giant double its UK engineering workforce since 2019.
Apple’s UK engineering teams, located in London, Cambridge and other regions, are spearheading the development of technologies such as the upcoming launch of Apple Intelligence and Private Cloud Compute.
The company, renowned for its best-selling iPhone, iPad and Mac devices, claims to now support 550,000 jobs across the UK, encompassing direct employment, retail stores, the supply chain and the vast network of developers who create software for the App Store.
Beyond hardware, Apple’s investment in the UK extends to its burgeoning entertainment sector. Production for Apple TV+ original series and films has tripled in the past two years, bolstering employment within the creative industries.
CEO Tim Cook, who recently visited London, said: “We’ve been serving customers in the UK for more than 40 years, and we’re proud of our deep connection with communities across this country. We’re thrilled to be growing our Apple teams here, and to keep supporting the extraordinary innovators, creators, and entrepreneurs who are pushing the boundaries of technology in so many ways.”
