Mindgard, a London-based DeepTech startup specialising in security for AI, has raised £6.5 million in funding to fuel its expansion into the United States.
The Lancaster University spinout has also appointed two industry leaders to key roles: Dave Ganly as Head of Product and Fergal Glynn as VP of Marketing.
.406 Ventures led the funding round with participation from Atlantic Bridge, Willowtree Investments, and existing investors IQ Capital and Lakestar.
Mr Ganly, formerly Director of Product at Twilio, and Mr Glynn, most recently CMO at Next DLP (acquired by Fortinet), will spearhead Mindgard’s expansion into the North American market, with a leadership presence in Boston.
Initially developed under Lancaster University, Mindgard leverages years of PhD-level research in AI security. Its automated threat analysis, detection, and response platform is already utilised by the intelligence community. The Mindgard platform seamlessly integrates with market-leading cybersecurity products and is part of the NVIDIA Inception Programme and Microsoft Founder’s Hub.
Dr Peter Garraghan, CEO of Mindgard and Professor at Lancaster University, commented: “All software has security risks, and AI is no exception. The challenge is that the way these risks manifest within AI is fundamentally different from other software. Drawing on our 10 years of experience in AI security research, Mindgard was created to tackle this challenge. We’re proud to lead the charge toward creating a safer, more secure future for AI.”
