The UK government has launched a new cybersecurity competition in partnership with the SANS Institute aimed at identifying and nurturing young talent in the sector.

The UK Cyber Team Competition is open to individuals aged 18 to 25 from across the United Kingdom and will offer young people the chance to start a career in cybersecurity and represent the UK on the world stage.

Participants will be tested on their digital skills through a series of cyber challenges designed to assess their technical expertise and problem-solving abilities. The competition is designed to uncover the best young minds in cybersecurity and provide them with opportunities to represent the UK in international competitions.

Those who excel in the competition will earn a place on the UK Cyber Team. Team members will receive advanced training and support from industry experts, as well as networking opportunities and mentorship to help them develop their careers.

The government emphasised the importance of the competition in addressing the UK’s cyber skills gap and strengthening national security at a time when the demand for skilled cyber professionals is at an all-time high.

Cyber Security Minister Feryal Clark said: “In an increasingly digital world, cyber threats are evolving rapidly – and it’s essential we stay ahead of the curve. The UK Cyber Team Competition is an exciting opportunity for young talent to showcase their skills and play a crucial role in protecting our nation’s digital future.

“We’re looking to find the best and brightest minds to represent the UK on the world stage. I encourage all eligible young people with a passion for cyber security and technology to take on the challenge and be part of something truly impactful.”
