Stability AI taps Hollywood expertise with new CTO

London-based Stability AI, which focuses on generative AI for imaging, language, coding and audio, has named former Microsoft and 20th Century Fox executive, Hanno Basse, as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The appointment is part of the company’s plans to continue strengthening its leadership team with top-tier industry professionals.

Prem Akkaraju, former CEO of visual effects company Weta Digital, was appointed CEO, while former Facebook president Sean Parker is now executive chairman. The bolstered leadership team and new investment could provide the stability needed for the London-founded AI firm to carve out a sustainable business in the fast-evolving generative AI sector.

Hanno Basse is an entertainment industry veteran, having held previous roles including CTO of Microsoft Azure Media and Entertainment, where he was responsible for implementing Azure’s cloud technology, along with edge and AI solutions, and CTO of 20th Century Fox Film Corporation. A distinguished figure in the field, Basse is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. He holds an impressive 30 patents to his name.
