PTC fuels Coventry’s manufacturing technology centre
A global frontrunner in digital transformation, PTC, an American software giant with over 200 employees in the UK, has forged a new partnership with the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry. This collaboration aims to propel the industry forward by integrating cutting-edge technologies.
As a Tier 2 member of the MTC, PTC has pledged to supply the Centre with the latest advancements in Augmented Reality, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platforms, Product Lifecycle Management, and CAD solutions. These resources will support projects aimed at enhancing the digital capabilities of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
Under this partnership, leading-edge software such as Vuforia, Thingworx, Windchill, and Creo will be made available to Coventry’s experts. This access will fast-track innovation in products and services, boost operational efficiency, and elevate workforce productivity.
This collaboration is a continuation of a six-year journey between PTC and the MTC, during which they have closely cooperated on several initiatives. Notably, they have developed VIVAR (Virtual Instruction Inspection and Verification using Augmented Reality), a project that revolutionizes enterprise-integrated Augmented Reality work instruction delivery. By leveraging PTC’s Vuforia tracking technology, VIVAR provides contextual assembly, maintenance, repair, and training instructions, enhancing operational efficacy and knowledge dissemination.
Dave Hughes, Director of pre-sales at PTC, said: “PTC has a long history of support for the High Value Manufacturing Catapult centres, and we’re delighted to be partnering with the MTC in a bid to strengthen the UK’s digital manufacturing capability.
“Our software can make a real difference to manufacturers as they navigate the digital journey, and it is vital that all parts of the supply chain find new ways where they can adopt Industry 4.0 technologies.”
He continued: “The MTC provides a fantastic proving ground for our solutions, with its reach spanning over 100 OEMs and SMEs. This broad involvement on MTC projects will not only provide the UK with a competitive edge across many industrial sectors, but will also generate real-world feedback that we can use to develop our own technologies.”
Thomas Driscoll, Technology Manager, Digital Engineering at the MTC, said: “We have been collaborating with PTC for a number of years, so I’m really pleased to see the relationship reinforced via this membership.
“The link between the physical and digital world is key to so many of our industrial projects and this partnership can only further our ability to deliver innovation to UK manufacturing.”
The organizations are now setting the stage for joint efforts within the MTC’s Core Research Programs, aiming to broaden the availability of PTC’s Industry 4.0 technologies to UK manufacturers. This collaboration will be channeled through the Smart Factory Innovation Hub and other pivotal initiatives, enhancing the technological landscape for the manufacturing sector in the UK.
