Bruntwood SciTech unveils exciting Birmingham innovation cluster
Bruntwood SciTech’s latest project, the Birmingham Innovation Quarter, is set to boost tech growth in the region. In collaboration with Aston University and Birmingham City Council, this innovation cluster spans 20 hectares within the Birmingham Knowledge Quarter and aims to become a thriving hub for technology and health innovation.
The vision is to create an ecosystem that brings together industry, business, entrepreneurs, start-up founders, academia staff, and students. By fostering cutting-edge research in various sectors, especially health tech, the Birmingham Innovation Quarter seeks to drive significant progress in the digital landscape.
The development will encompass science and tech commercial offices, residential spaces, student housing, hospitality, teaching, and research buildings. With the potential for future expansion, the Quarter is poised to catalyze foreign investment, business transformation, and skills development, resulting in a positive socio-economic impact across the region.
Birmingham City Council’s leader, Cllr Ian Ward, highlights the city’s rich history of innovation and research, and the Quarter will build on that legacy by attracting globally-recognized innovation, top talent, and exciting businesses and cultural institutions.
The new innovation cluster arrives at a time of robust tech growth for Birmingham and the wider West Midlands ecosystem. In 2021, the West Midlands earned the title of the fastest-growing tech sector, and its ecosystem was valued at a remarkable £15.3 billion in 2022. A recent report by UKTN reveals that 85% of tech company decision-makers consider the West Midlands an excellent place to establish and expand their businesses.
As a dynamic property developer in the UK tech sector, Bruntwood SciTech has a track record of successful projects, including the redevelopment of a life science lab in Macclesfield, a £21 million tech hub at Manchester Science Park, and ongoing work on offices in Glasgow. Now, with the Birmingham Innovation Quarter, the company adds another chapter to its mission to support innovation and growth in the UK tech landscape.
