Bruntwood SciTech launches major redevelopment project at Centre City in Birmingham
Bruntwood SciTech has embarked on an ambitious redevelopment of the Centre City building in Birmingham, investing £4.5 million to transform the venue into a state-of-the-art hub primarily for technology-focused firms. The redevelopment of the 210,000 square-foot building, initially built in the 1960s and located in the city’s theater district, marks a significant step towards enhancing Birmingham’s position as a hotspot for innovative companies.
The extensive renovation includes modern co-working spaces and pay-as-you-go office options, in addition to the traditional leased spaces. The building will also see the addition of new wellness amenities and communal areas such as a lounge with biophilic designs and a café, and upgrades to the basement to incorporate a fitness and weights studio, a contemplation room, and bicycle storage facilities.
Mohammed Ali, Senior Asset Manager at Bruntwood SciTech, emphasszed the project’s importance, stating, “The redevelopment of Centre City represents a pivotal moment for Birmingham, underscoring Bruntwood SciTech’s dedication to fostering innovation and economic prosperity in the region. This £4.5 million transformation will introduce state-of-the-art workspaces and amenities, enhancing collaboration, wellbeing, and social interaction within a prime city center location.”
He further highlighted the project’s alignment with Birmingham’s broader economic strategies, adding, “This project offers a unique opportunity for businesses to thrive in a dynamic environment, supported by convenient access to Birmingham’s extensive transport network and vibrant retail offerings. As we progress with construction, we look forward to welcoming a diverse range of leading organizations to this revitalized landmark, further cementing Birmingham’s reputation as a premier destination for business growth.”
Scheduled for completion in January 2025, the revamped Centre City will serve more than 100 innovative companies currently housed across Bruntwood SciTech’s six innovation hubs in Birmingham.
Andy Riach, Director for Lambert Smith Hampton, expressed his enthusiasm about the redevelopment: “Located next to New Street Station, Centre City will offer unparalleled accessibility and modern facilities, making it an attractive destination for businesses seeking state-of-the-art workspace. We have no doubt that demand will be high for this market-leading workspace, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have on the local business landscape.”
With Bruntwood SciTech at the helm and a skilled team from Estilo as the main contractor, along with support from CubicWorks, Hilson Moran, and DW Consulting Engineers, the transformation of Centre City is poised to be a landmark project in Birmingham’s ongoing urban regeneration.
