Bruntwood SciTech completes £4.5 million redevelopment in Birmingham

Bruntwood SciTech has finished a £4.5 million redevelopment of its Centre City site in Birmingham, marking the culmination of a significant £52.5 million investment in the city over the past year. This project is a joint effort between Bruntwood, Legal & General, and the Greater Manchester Pension Fund.
The refurbished 20-storey, 210,000 square foot building now offers flexible and scalable workspaces tailored to companies at different stages of growth. Centre City is home to a diverse business community, including the global tech company Hitachi and the Ministry of Justice.
The building has been enhanced with several new features aimed at promoting wellbeing and productivity. These include a living wall that greets visitors upon arrival, extensive greenery in all communal and coworking spaces, a new lounge, and a spacious green atrium. Additional facilities such as a wellness centre, fitness studio, and café are designed to support active travel and work-life balance.
All common areas of the building are powered by 100% renewable energy, aligning with Bruntwood SciTech’s goal to achieve net zero operations by 2030.
The completion of Centre City is part of Bruntwood SciTech’s broader £52.5 million investment in Birmingham, which includes enhancing customer experience at Cornerblock in the Colmore Business District, continuing construction on the Birmingham Health Innovation Campus, and refurbishing Mclaren near the future HS2 terminal.
Businesses relocating to Centre City will benefit from Bruntwood SciTech’s innovation growth services and its national community of over 1,100 science, technology, and innovation-led businesses. They will have direct access to partners such as the Wealth Midlands Growth Company, Tech WM, Supertech WM, and Medilink Midlands, along with academic institutions like Aston University and the University of Birmingham.
Rob Valentine, regional director for Bruntwood SciTech, stated, “Birmingham is rapidly becoming one of the UK’s most exciting innovation hubs, with over 2,000 tech startups and more than 6,000 tech businesses in the city. We are developing real strength in sectors such as fintech, digital marketing, medtech, and gaming, thanks to the city’s talent, academic links, and extensive business support networks. Molly Cook has been appointed as Associate Commercial Director at Bruntwood SciTech, joining from Colliers where she served for six years. In her new role, Cook will be instrumental in attracting innovation-led businesses to Bruntwood SciTech’s community in Birmingham.
