IBM becomes headline sponsor for Birmingham Tech Week 2024
IBM, one of the world’s foremost technology and consulting organisations, has been announced as the headline sponsor for the upcoming Birmingham Tech Week 2024, scheduled for 21-25 October. The event, which is now in its sixth year, is organised by TechWM and will feature a robust agenda including speeches, panel discussions, and networking opportunities aimed at showcasing the potential of new technologies for local businesses.
The week-long event is expected to attract more than 8,000 professionals, entrepreneurs, international delegates, and technology enthusiasts. This year’s line-up will emphasise developments in AI, fintech, cybersecurity, and digital skills, highlighted by contributions from major industry players like IBM and Goldman Sachs.
IBM’s role as a patron at Birmingham Tech Week is slated to offer critical insights into how organisations can use new technologies to enhance productivity, sustainability, and growth.
Goldman Sachs will also play a significant role, acting as the headline sponsor for the TechMids Engineering and Developer Conference on 25 October. Their participation will provide key perspectives on fintech’s influence on the future of financial services and its implications for the West Midlands’ tech landscape.
The tech ecosystem in the West Midlands, now according to TechWM’s press release is valued at £15 billion, benefits immensely from the involvement of prominent companies like IBM, Goldman Sachs, and the IN4 group. Such support underscores the region’s reputation as a burgeoning tech hub in the UK. IN4 group’s participation, in particular, highlights the regional skills gap and how investment from major tech firms can make a significant impact.
Dr Nicola Hodson, Chief Executive of IBM UK & Ireland, reflected on the company’s longstanding connection with the region and its vibrant tech sector, stating, “The Birmingham region is synonymous with innovation and enterprise, and helped to power the Industrial Revolution. That heritage shines through today in the region’s dynamic economy and flourishing tech industry. IBM has been present in the West Midlands for decades and we are excited to be part of the region’s bright future, helping local organisations adopt AI and other powerful technologies that will drive growth and create new jobs.”
The theme for this year’s Tech Week is about more than just introducing state-of-the-art technology—it aims to foster a collaborative ecosystem that propels the next generation of innovators. With the support of IBM, Goldman Sachs, and other national tech enterprises, the goal is to establish Birmingham as a global tech powerhouse by 2030.
