Siemens Mobility lands £47M HS2 deal in Leicestershire
The Ashby-de-la-Zouch facility of Siemens Mobility has secured a £47 million contract to supply a comprehensive station information management system for all HS2 stations, namely Curzon Street, Interchange, Old Oak Common, and Euston.
The initiative, which is expected to sustain around 200 jobs, will utilise the technology already in operation on London’s Elizabeth line, used by millions of commuters daily. This technology will significantly improve the station experience for passengers at every step of their journey.
Rob Morris, Joint-CEO at Siemens Mobility UKI, said: “We are on a mission to transform rail travel and transport, with the imagination and ambition of 5,000 UK employees. We have a significant presence in Ashby and are delighted as a result to be working in close collaboration with HS2 and our supply chain partners to deliver this landmark project. Not only will it be delivered at Ashby, here in the UK, by the next generation of engineers, it will also help create jobs and provide a boost to the local economy.”
Kim Kapur, Stations Client Director at HS2 Ltd said: “Station systems such as the public address, information and fire alarms play a vital role in the smooth running of all modern railways stations – providing clear information to passengers and staff to de-stress journeys and ensure safety throughout. Siemens have a clear track record of delivering state-of-the-art station systems and we look forward to working with them – and their team at Ashby de-la-Zouch.”
At the core of the project’s execution will be a collaborative approach, involving Siemens Mobility working in close coordination with its extensive network of 3,000 suppliers, of which 47% are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) based in the UK. The collaboration will also extend to HS2 Ltd and its various contractors.
Siemens Mobility will manage a significant segment of the project, encompassing everything from design to delivery, adhering to established best practices. This will include conducting Factory Acceptance Testing at its laboratory facilities in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. Following this, the company will carry out live testing and commissioning activities on-site. This strategy is aimed at minimizing travel to the site while ensuring reliable and timely delivery.
