Walsall-based Symphony Automation, a lighting control firm, has announced the win of a contract to provide lighting control for the £19 million heritage refurbishment project at The Piece Hall, a 1779 Grade I Listed building in the centre of Halifax.
Work is currently taking place to refurbish and conserve the hall, creating a 21st century heritage visitor attraction; with an interpretation and learning centre, a new east extension and a redesigned courtyard.
Symphony Automation also boasts Sainsbury’s as a client. It has been working with Sainsbury’s carbon reduction team for seven years to roll out its lighting control system across the supermarket giant’s extensive estate.
Lighting will be a key aspect of the Halifax project with designs by award winning BuroHappold featuring light and water displays. The detailed lighting control system was drawn up by another Black Country business, Urban Jungle Energy & Engineering.
Lighting will be used to enhance the visitor experience, highlight the historic building and also play a large part in the events that will take place once the building is reopened later this year.

“Lighting can be controlled to adjust to a building’s usage in terms of both reducing energy costs and enhancing mood levels.
